The CHPA Board of Directors announced the unanimous approval to begin work on a unified, industry-wide carbon calculator for the corporate housing and serviced accommodation sector.
The creation of this calculator, supported by the CHPA Sustainability Workgroup in partnership with Greenview, will help member companies meet the growing requirements of various corporate, relocation and travel industry clients. This will allow providers to use a standardized and scalable emissions measurement and reporting tool.
We’re targeting our first iteration of the calculator by Connect25 in San Diego. All CHPA members are invited to participate in using the CHPA Carbon Calculator so we can learn together as an association. To launch this critical initiative, we invite all members to join our Founders and support this crucial initiative. Commit funds for the project development from $500 - $10,000 USD to be recognized as a supporter. Connect with our Sustainability Workgroup chairs to discuss your options for being recognized as a CHPA Carbon Calculator supporter.
In the first iteration, the calculator will generate a greenhouse gas emissions analysis including all energy used ‘in the unit’ (vs in a building overall). Our goal is to calculate the energy usage unit operators can control and ultimately impact, rather than focus on common spaces and hallways where unit operators and guests have no direct ability to impact energy usage. CHPA will provide training to members to use the calculator and store their data so it can be easily accessed for client reporting needs.
Accommodations providers of all sizes can use the calculator directly to analyze their carbon footprint by unit type in a building and their total carbon footprint across all units. This data can be requested from partners to share with clients and customers in reviewing options during the booking process, and in annual ESG reporting. The emissions data will help operators identify a performance baseline and create their plans for a reduced carbon footprint over time.
We are currently in conversations with additional companies and hope to see this list grow. We invite all members to become an initial founder of the CHPA Carbon Calculator and be recognized as an industry leader
Funds will be used to support the first iteration of the industry-wide carbon calculator. They will also be used to maintain and update accordingly once it is launched. We offer the following recommended giving levels in USD to launch this initiative:
